The Empty Threats create a compelling mix of post-punk/noise-rock – combining the experimental elements of modern post-punk with an 80s Australiana-rock sensibility for hooks; they have landed on a sound only they can claim. The band has grown from local darlings to renowned national touring band to making inroads internationally. Since 2021, they have played over 150 shows all over the state, several headline shows across the country while also appearing at festivals such as Camp A Low Hum (NZ) Yours & Owls Festival, WOMADelaide, Spin Off Festival and Bigsound. In 2024, all the prior diligent national touring saw them to being invited to their first inter­ national shows in New Zealand at the famed Camp A Low Hum (Wellington, NZ) and then headlining Rough Trade East (London, UK) in the midst of completing their first UK & EU tour in May and June. Creative resistance is the through line of the band’s charged political stances and lived convictions that feature on debut ‘Monster Truck Mondays’. This energy is a mirror for their live performance that celebrates empowerment & hope mixed with scathing social critique. Echoing these powerful sentiments, they have wrapped up recording the follow up to MTM that will demonstrate the bands grace & power in the studio. Album number two is the band refining their sound that juxtaposes saccharine vocal hooks against crunchy beds of music.
