Fast-rising Kaurna Land/Adelaide queer post-punks The Empty Threat’s are quickly becoming
renowned for their wild and eclectic live shows. After the release of two EPS, they are on the precipice of
the release of debut album Monster Truck Mondays which sees them playing select headline dates
alongside appearances at Bigsound 2023 & Yours & Owls Festival 2023. Empties have shared stages
with Methel Ethel, Mildlife, Teen Jesus & the Jean Teasers, Jimmy Barns and ICEHOUSE, plus
performed at festivals including Mountain Goat Valley Crawl, WOMADelaide and Spin Off alongside
Hilltop Hoods, Pnau and Benee, among others.
Launched in 2017, The Empty Threats (lovingly referred to by fans as ‘Empties’), is the project of Stu
Patterson, Matt Schultz, Venus, Lenny Regione and Michael Bond. Since the release of their debut
single in 2018, the group have drummed up a reputation for their politically-charged anthems adjacent to
the post-punk of shame and Tropical F*ck Storm, melded with ‘80s Australiana. Monster Truck
Mondays sees the group lean further into social advocacy, exploring themes of anxiety, existential dread,
capitalism, LGBTQIA+ rights and colonialism over snarling bass, frenzied guitar work, restless percussion
and electric clarinet.
Charged, rambunctious and textured, Monster Truck Mondays includes singles ‘Evil Eye’, ‘ATACB’ and
‘Boys in the Gutter’, which have been met with praise from rage, MTV, Rolling Stone, Pilerats, Tone
Deaf, Purple Sneakers among others, with plays on triple j and Unearthed, ample community radio
support from FBi, 2SER, PBS, 4ZZZ, 3RRR and many more, plus adds to coveted Spotify editorial
playlists including ‘New Music Friday’, ‘Fresh Finds Rock’ and ‘All New Rock’.
Monster Truck Mondays is out Friday July 28 via P.A.K. Records. Pre-order the album on 12” vinyl at
www.pakrecords.com.au. Tickets available now.
