The Empty Threats create a compelling mix of post-punk/noise-rock – combining the experimental elements of modern post-punk with an 80s Australiana-rock sensibility for hooks; they have landed on a sound only they can claim. The band has grown from local darlings to renowned national touring band to making inroads internationally. Since 2021, they have played over 150 shows all over the state, several headline shows across the country while also appearing at festivals such as Camp A Low Hum (NZ) Yours & Owls Festival, WOMADelaide, Spin Off Festival and Bigsound. In 2024, all the prior diligent national touring saw them to being invited to their first inter national shows in New Zealand at the famed Camp A Low Hum (Wellington, NZ) and then headlining Rough Trade East (London, UK) in the midst of completing their first UK & EU tour in May and June. Creative resistance is the through line of the band’s charged political stances and lived convictions that feature on debut ‘Monster Truck Mondays’. This energy is a mirror for their live performance that celebrates empowerment & hope mixed with scathing social critique. Echoing these powerful sentiments, they have wrapped up recording the follow up to MTM that will demonstrate the bands grace & power in the studio. Album number two is the band refining their sound that juxtaposes saccharine vocal hooks against crunchy beds of music. Each of the last few years has seen the band take a keen steps forward, in 2025 they are looking to make a leap. “Charged, rambunctious and textured.. – Rough Trade East (London, UK) “Ones to watch… The quintet have a kinetic energy onstage with a shambolic garage rock meets the Rocky Horror Picture Show-quality to them. But their songwriting commands gravitas taking in themes of colonialism, genocide and queer rights.” – Celine Teo-Blackey, KEXPI Under The Radar Magi The Red Bull/tin (USA) “Surging and cathartic, The Empty Threats are bark and bite…one of the best live bands in the country” – Dave Ruby Howe, Tr/pie J Unearthed/ABC Radio (Australia) “Nobody does it like The Empty Threats!” – Ash Mcgregor, tr/pie J (Australia) “They know exactly what they’re doing, love them” – Claire Mooney, triple J (Australia) “…playful and charming away from the stage but there’s a sophisticated depth to their music that’s captivating and cathartic in equal measure.” – Cassidy Burke, Junkee (Brisbane) “This music makes you feel something! The energy of their recorded music is outmatched only by their electric live performances.” – Brooke Kimberly, Tone Deaf (Melbourne) “Adelaide lays claim to some of the most exciting bands in the Australian underground. Over the last couple of years, I’ve been trying to keep abreast of the noise, fuzz and weirdness that seems to so readily crop up in South Australia and The Empty Threats were one of my introductions into the city and its scene.” – Max Me/It, Stew Mag (Melbourne) “A band that deserves to be taken seriously…last year they released their debut album, Monster Truck Mondays that tackles anxieties and issues such as colonialism, capitalism and existential dread.” – Sam Rodgers, RGM (Manchester, UK)
