Aria-nominated children’s band Whistle & Trick (as seen on ABC Kids TV) is made up of childhood friends Esther and Maddy, who are always ready to sing, dance, and cause a bit of mischief. Having shared the stage back in their goody-goody, high-school choir days, this dynamic duo have now reunited and joined forces to bring their newest love of children’s music to life. Esther and Maddy both come from abundant musical backgrounds, brought up in families of singer songwriters, music teachers and professional orchestral musicians. Growing up in such musical environments fuelled their interest in music, and between them they have performed in many bands all over the world. All the while, they could never shake their love for working with children, resulting in both Maddy and Esther taking up careers in music education. Finally, they realised that with their knowledge of children’s education and their natural musicianship, it seemed only fitting to bring these skillsets together and thus, Whistle and Trick was born. Whistle & Trick began in February of 2023 when they signed with ABC music and began releasing their own original music. They came out with an absolute bang as their debut album “Bananas and Other Delicious Things” was nominated for “Best Children’s Album” at both the 2023 ARIA Awards, and the Australian Independent Records Awards, alongside Australian established artists such as The Wiggles, Emma Memma, Playschool, Peter Comb and Josh Pyke. In this very same year, Whistle & Trick were then nominated for “Best Album”, “Best Video Clip” and the “Best Newcomer Award” at the 2023 Major Minor Music Australia Awards. Whistle & Trick went on to produce 12 lively music videos for kids, which were acquired by ABC and released as interstitials on ABC Kids and Iview in March of 2024. Soon after, they released another 4 singles, the first of which was nominated for “APRA Song of the Year” at the 2024 Major Minor MusicAustralia Awards. In November Whistle & Trick released their second Album “Space Fish” and have now produced another 12 video clips to accompany each song on the album, of which are set to be released as Series 2 of Whistle & Trick on ABC Kids and Iview in March 2025. Over the last 2 years Whistle & Trick have collaborated, released songs and made video clips with successful Australian Musicians Paul Kelly, Vika & Linda Bull, Allday, Memphis LK, Alex Lahey, Valanga Khoza and Australian comedian and presenter Brian Nankervis. Whistle & Trick continue to perform shows and festivals across Australia, and had sell out shows across their first National tour in 2024. They have made appearances on live to air tv, radio, and even performed a full live stream to the Starlight rooms at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne. As Whistle and Trick hop, skip and jump their way into the world of children’s entertainment, they hope to keep creating music that is fun and lively, so the whole family can have a boogie at the breakfast table, or have a big car singalong on that family road trip. They have created music that is clever and thoughtful, so children don’t feel like they are being spoken down to, and can instead learn about their world and have their imagination take flight. Lastly, it’s music that feels safe and warm, so that parents can rely on it to help settle their little ones in times of need. With a dash of sparkle, a spoonful of silliness, and a whole lot of heart, Whistle & Trick invite kids (and their grown-ups) into a world of musical wonder where anything is possible.
