Following on from the massive success of their last single ‘Silly Boy’, Gadigal-based psychedelic duo Velvet Trip are back with their latest dreamy offering ‘Electric Dreams’, perfect timing as the weather warms up.
Their newest track is pure sunshine, a euphoric dream-state collage that ignites joy and makes you want to boogie.
Lead singer Zeppelin Hamilton discusses the writing process, “I was experimenting with different methods to find inspiration. I had some books lying around in the garage including a Jim Morrison poetry book, The Wind-Up Bird Chronicles, and some other random stuff. I would put my headphones on, play the instrumentals, and flick through the book. Stopping at words that evoked or jumped out at me, I made a word bank and constructed sentences this way. This song is a result of that experimentation and it came out super weird..It was so much fun to make''.
The duo have revealed the vibrant and off-beat visuals for the track, directed by collaborator Claire Salter (Polish Club, G-Flip x MXMTOON, Jack Ladder & The Dreamers).
On their collaboration, Claire says, “This location has always been very special to me and when Zeppelin came to me with Electric Dreams, we both agreed that it was the perfect location to bring the ethereal vibes of the song to life. And with the maze-like floor plan, why not turn it into a loose game of hide and seek! In all honesty though, Zep and Clay are so fun to watch, you could really just follow them around with a camera for the day and that would be entertaining enough!"
To celebrate the release of ‘Electric Dreams’ they will be hitting the East Coast this November-December, kicking it off with a showcase at this year’s inaugural SXSW Sydney and wrapping it up with a festival slot at Lost Paradise.
Velvet Trip are excited to announce that they have signed with the prestigious booking agency Cult Artists (Genesis Owusu, Parcels, Royel Otis).
Agents Kim Ramos & Jess Wust comment on the new signing, “After seeing Velvet Trip support Parcels on their Australian Tour, we knew this was a project we had to be a part of. We’re so excited to welcome them into the Cult family and can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve been working on.”
As individuals Zeppelin and Clay have been honing their respective crafts, performing, and writing alongside hard hitters like Julia Jacklin, Dan Sultan, Faye Webster, Middle Kids, and Emily Wurramara - all the while developing Velvet Trip.
In the wake of previous releases ‘Moving On’, ‘Silly Boy’ and ‘It’s Only Human’, Velvet Trip were featured in the NY Times (T Mag), RUSSH, NME AUS, and selected to be part of Mushroom Groups’ First Nations Pathway Program.
All three singles have garnered extensive support from editorial playlists across DSPs, rotation on community radio stations throughout Australia/New Zealand, and landed a spot add on Triple J for ‘Silly Boy’.
The band are gearing up to release their debut album Harmony Blooms on February 9, 2024, get ready to take the trip.
